After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Dr. Berger began medical school at Washington University in Saint Louis. During that time, she developed a keen interest in the field of anesthesiology. She loved that anesthesia combined a unique one-on-one relationship with patients and required detailed knowledge of human physiology. During medical school, Dr. Berger was at the top of her class and received the most prestigious honor that a medical student can receive, acceptance into the honors medical program called AOA. Following medical school, Dr. Berger completed her four-year anesthesiology residency at the University of Colorado where she and her husband enjoyed being close to family and the mountains. During residency, she again was at the top of her class and received the Outstanding Resident of the Year Award during her final year of residency. Even though she had received 12 years of school/training post-high school, Dr. Berger decided to complete yet another year of anesthesia training at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado to become a fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologist. During this training, she took care of well over 500 patients and cared for very sick children. This training included anesthetizing patients for open-heart surgeries, craniotomies, and liver transplants. She also took care of many healthy as well as sick patients having dental procedures. Her fellowship also had pediatric ICU rotations, and she was the airway specialist in the ICU during that time. After completing her fellowship, Dr. Berger has worked as chair of the pediatric department of anesthesiology for Kaiser for over 5 years and has been a 5280 “Top Doc” nominee multiple times. Dr. Berger is among the most trained and highly qualified physicians in our country to care for a child while under anesthesia for a dental procedure. She is the mother of three young-children and treats every patient as her own child. As a mother, she can relate to the youngest of patients and to their caregivers!
As though working as a busy mom is not enough, Dr. Berger enjoys hiking, climbing, skiing, cooking, and reading. She also considers herself to be a home improvement guru!
