Receiving a dental filling is a way to restore the tooth after a dental cavity or tooth decay. When the bacteria in your child’s mouth combines with sugar from the foods they eat, it creates an acid. This acid begins to eat at your child’s sensitive tooth enamel, causing it to weaken and creating tiny holes in the enamel, known as dental cavities. If caught early, these cavities can be treated with a dental filling. The filling will fill in the decayed portion of the tooth, protecting it and preventing the bacteria from spreading further into the tooth.
