Dr. Zachary Van Hilsen
Dr. Van Hilsen grew up in Phoenix, AZ as the oldest of six boys. He got his appreciation for Colorado and all it has to offer during his undergraduate education at Colorado College. He then attended dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. Upon graduation, he worked for two years with experienced pediatric dentists, treating children with extensive dental needs in El Paso, TX. This exposure cemented his love for caring for children and patients of special needs.
During his time in private practice, Dr. Van Hilsen because acutely aware of the benefits of anesthesia in providing the highest quality dental care for the pediatric and special-needs patients who are unable to tolerate using traditional dental techniques such as local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. This caused him to pursue anesthesia training at what he considers the very best program in the country, Ohio State University.
In addition to practicing as an anesthesiologist, Dr. Van Hilsen spends considerable time trying to increase the safety of anesthesia in dentistry by teaching anesthesia continuing education courses and by teaching the pediatric dental residents at Children's Hospital Colorado sedation and medical emergencies.
Dr. Van Hilsen is excited to call Colorado home and looks forward to becoming further a part of the Colorado Community.
